Waste management

Region Västernorrlands waste management is controlled by law and local decisions.

The EU waste management strategy demands that measures be taken to prevent waste and for waste to be reused, recycled and its energy utilised before being deposited.

Vision 2024

Region Västernorrlands waste will be well-sorted and part of a sustainable ecocycle.

Goals 2019

  • The total amount of waste from Region Västernorrland will be cut each year during the period 2015-2019.
  • At least 40 per cent of waste must be recycled.
  • At least 60 per cent of waste from new construction and renovation work must be reused or recycled.

Reduced food waste

Between 2010 and 2012 we reduced the amount of food waste at the hospital in Sundsvall by 47 percent, a reduction worth 3,8 million Swedish crowns. Watch our film to find out how we did it.
