Welcome to AIRY Literature in Northern Sweden! Last day of application March 20, 2025.

The County Council of Västernorrland and Hola Folkhögskola is announcing a working-class literature residency for published authors in Prästmon, Sweden in September 2025. Hola offers an inspiring rural and beautiful environment to stay in.

About Working-Class Literature

We welcome applications from published authors active in the broad field of working-class literature. This can include different forms of expressions such as prose, poetry, graphic novels, essays and biography.

Outcome

The residency aims give authors a possibility to focus on their writing, there is however no requirement for artistic production during the residency.

As residence author, we expect you to:

  • Do at least one talk about your work and participate in at least one group event together with other AIRY artists.
  • Do a presentation about your work for the writing students at Hola.
  • Write a shorter text about your stay at Hola (maximum 2 pages).

Accommodation

We provide a private room (17 m²) with an en-suite bathroom. Hola Folkhögskola has a drug and alcohol-free policy.

How to apply

Send your application as one (1) PDF of max 8 MB. The application needs to contain:

  • List of merits including information about your 3-5 latest publications with title, year published and publisher (max 2 pages).
  • Description of how you define your authorship as working-class literature (max 2000 characters incl. spaces).
  • Description of your plans during your residency (max 2000 characters incl. spaces).
  • Work samples, 5-10 pages in Swedish or English (or translations to these languages).

The residency is open for international as well as Swedish applications. This means that you do not need to write in Swedish, be a Swedish citizen or live in Sweden to be able to apply.
