How to influence things

The basic way to influence things in a representative democracy like Sweden is to vote.

In an election, you vote for the party who you believe can shape the activities of Region Västernorrland in the best possible manner.

Keep abreast of matters which interest you

The basic principle is to learn about matters which interest you. Who is/are responsible? Where and how are decisions made?

Keep up to date by reading Region Västernorrland web site, searching the document registry and/or putting questions to officers and politicians

Many decisions are made by the heads of departments and units. Any proposed action is investigated and discussed and solutions are assessed before any decisions are made.

The principle of public access (offentlighetsprincipen) gives you the right to read all documents which written at or received by Region Västernorrland with the exception of confidential documents such as medical records and purely internal working documents.

Observe meetings and decisions

Region Västernorrland meetings are open to the public – everybody is welcome to come along and listen. You can also observe meetings live on web-TV or read about them later here on the web site.

Dialogue

The political bodies have a particular duty to maintain a dialogue with residents. The Health and Medical Care Delegation is in regular contact with various user groups and organisations.

Make comments and suggestions

You can send comments and suggestions to responsible officers or politicians. You can send e-mail directly to the person responsible or to the registry, which will note your question and forward it to the right person.

If you want to influence something which affects an individual, such as care, treatment or reception of a patient, you should first contact the relevant personnel, department or its management.

We have a;special contact form if you are dissatisfied with medical care. You can also contact the Patient Board. Politicians do not normally involve themselves in cases concerning individuals.
